9. The Bakery

Joan works at a bakery. Every morning, she wakes up early before the sun rises. She puts on her apron, ties her hair back, and walks to the small bakery on the corner of her street. The air always feels cool in the morning, and the streets are quiet. When Joan arrives at the bakery, she turns on the lights and gets ready to start her day.

She makes bread first. She mixes flour, water, and yeast in a big bowl. Then, she kneads the dough with her hands. It’s hard work, but Joan enjoys it. The smell of fresh dough fills the air as she shapes it into loaves. She puts the bread in the oven and waits while it bakes. Soon, the bakery smells warm and delicious.

Next, Joan makes pastries. She rolls out dough and fills it with fruits, chocolate, or cream. She carefully folds each pastry and places them on trays. As she works, the sun slowly rises, and the streets outside start to get busier. People walk by on their way to work, and some stop to look through the bakery window. They see Joan working and smile at the sight of fresh bread and sweet pastries.

By the time the bakery opens, everything is ready. The first customers come in, eager for their morning coffee and a warm croissant. Joan greets them with a smile. She takes their orders, serves them coffee, and hands them their pastries. Some customers chat with her while others quietly enjoy their breakfast at the small tables inside.

Throughout the day, the bakery stays busy. People come and go, some buying a quick snack, others sitting down to enjoy their food. Joan stays on her feet, working hard, but she doesn’t mind. She likes seeing the happy faces of her customers as they take their first bite of something fresh and delicious.

In the afternoon, things slow down. Joan takes a moment to rest. She sits by the window with a cup of tea, watching the people pass by outside. She thinks about how much she enjoys her work. Even though it’s tiring, it makes her feel proud to make something with her hands that people enjoy.

As the day comes to an end, Joan cleans up the bakery. She wipes the counters, washes the dishes, and sweeps the floor. The bakery looks tidy and ready for the next day. Joan locks the door and heads home, tired but happy. She knows tomorrow will be another early start, but she doesn’t mind.
